There arnt many Datsuns in General here in Canada, so it is no surpprise that i was eyeing this Brown B210 1 car infront of me at the red light. Light turns green, get stoped at the next light. Light turns green and the little datsun starts to head off. Thats when I hear a loud crack and notice a large tube liek oject wacking around the bottom of the Datsun and the road making sparks. Some how the Drive shaft is now spinning and swinging around, making a trail of sparks going down the road and giant holes in the roads.

Young people all around the world are trying to harrass their Datuns into a breakdown.

That is pretty funny though. Good reporting.

Aarhh!!
200 kph and you lost your tailshaft !!! I hope it was the rear connection. I've also wondered what would happen if one lost the front connection. Some sort of pole-vaulting action I'd imagine !!

That was actually on a show called Mythbusters here, where they test out myths and that was one of them. Didient do much besides make the car jump a tad liek it ran over a Curb or soemthing

about 10 months ago i went to look at a 1200 coupe for sale in a local trader. It was quite a nice car with some good hot up bits. While inspecting for rust i noticed the floor was all rumpled and buckled like some one had taken to it with the fork end of a hammer. he explained that the day he picked it up he was driving down the motorway when a mazda 323 dohc turbo gave him a go so they started racing and some where above 160kph his drive shaft let go about a foot back from the gear box. He said the back of the car flew up about two feet and the front foot of the drive shaft continued to spin and smash into the floor until it fell out and smashed into the rear wheel. mean while the rear end of the drive shaft continued to thrash around under the back of the car. He said he has no idea how he didn't spin or flip but he had spent about two weeks panel beating the floor and it still looked like ####. Since then I always change universal joints as soon as they start to make noise or develop play.

It was the front uni joint that let go.
I was lucky, you need to have a tailshaft loop at the front so it hit that. The rear then snapped and the tailshaft exited the car just on entry into turn one at the Creek.
It made little damage to the car, I was very lucky that the gouge the shaft took out of the loaded right rear tyre wall didnt go all the way through and that I didnt have a blowout whilst doing that speed.
Im afraid it would have been the end of poor old EVO5 and myself if it did go through the tyre wall.
