just looking at engine combos for my coupe which has a rebuilt a15 stocker in it.
I really dont want to go down the CA path because of the cost but i want a quick steet car.
Because i really dont no what a 150hp engine in a 1200 feels like i have been looking at quater times but on the street its a bit different cos of the speed limit. So has any one got a comparison between a a15 turbo an a CA18DET on the street like some 0-100 times. many thanx

my oldman has A14 Supercharged and it gets cleaned up by the CA and SR datsuns. the Aseries is quick for a 1.4lt engine, but then the CA's and SR's are extremely quick for a 1.8 and 2.0lt - plus they have the advantage of twin cam, injection ect.

the forced Aseries is great if you dont want to mod the tunnel (bigger box), cut up your front for intercooler ect.

value-for-money the CA is the go, more expensive anitially but think about it - you start off standard with 130 - 160kw without touching the engine! the fuel injected CA would be a better driving engine too cause the superchargeD A14 engine is tricky to drive!

but then again the changing of diff, crossmembers, hydraulic clutch all gets too expensive. but the Aseries will still get nailed by the SR or CA cause yes my brothers SR Smokes the Oldmans A14S - im sticking too my standard A14 easiest way to go.

hmmm, put it this way with my a15ett (remember im sticking to stock internals and compression) im expecting to match or marginally beat a stock rebuilt CA18DET 1200

after i get it tuned properly im expecting 100rwkw (depending on the condition of the CA some mebers have achieved less than this after converting)

with 100rwkw i should be able to beat any commodore (in stock form) and most wrx's (maybe not newest STI's), but the wrx is always gonna get at least a car length on launch

back before i went injection but still twin turbo i was pretty much on par with a mates 180kw r33 gtst and another mates 2000 model wrx which had a few mods

it's probably that quick now before i tune it

my reason for staying with stock internals and compression is that replacement cost if i do damage the bottom end is less than $300-400

0-60mph times are almost exactly the same as 0-100kph.

For comparison here are some A12 numbers:

15.1 seconds: Stock A12 w/four speed
11.9 seconds: SSS A12

See tech section "performance" article.

Twistex's KA24DE engine with sidedraft carbs powered his 1200 to a 13.9 1/4 mile. That's probably somewhere around 5-6 seconds 0-100kph.

You can say what you want about beating car off the mark.
As every one should no it all comes down to the driver. To answer your question put the same driver in all differant cars & run them 0-100 then you can work out whos faster or not.
Also your 1200 weighs 700kg the average commodore weighs 1400kg so to match a V6 commo you need half the power & half the weight. If you get an a15 to make 140 HP in a 1200 you will be very suprised what it will do on the street if you can drive it properly.
Coops
P.S I am a bit pissed
