How to store engines long term?

What is the best way to protect my engine pieces, diff centers, etc for long term storage? They are in the garage with plastic over them, but they are getting slight rust on the interior surfaces from the damp air.

Should I spray something on them? Seal up tightly or loosely? Or ?

I just don't want the parts to be shot when I might need them in a year or two.

for parts like that, spray grease works well, because it won't run off like oil will. then wrap in cling wrap to keep dust, dirt, and moisture out if you really want to be sure about it. or lots of oil then wrap in rags works OK too.

another trick if ur building an engine that will sit fgor a while, put this stuff called clevite 77 on all ur bearings and stuff so when it comes time to start it up, they have lubrication until the oil pump starts working properly. clevite stays on everything jeff taylor recommended it, its like bearing insurance he said.
