hey guys

Im going to get the flywheel lightened for the a15 before it going into the wagon. What would be the optimal weight??
I have seen many pictures on this site. Some have being really really light but i dont know whats the best weight. The engine will be for street/race use. Im wanting to get into a lot of track days but be able to use on the street.

any contribution welcome

The stock A15 flywheel might be as much as 28 lbs, I had one lightned by about 1/3'rd that's about as much as you can do safely.

1/3'rd seems to be the most that can be done safely.
for $USD400+ you can get a proper 8 lb aluminum one if it's worth that much to you.
add the lightweight crank pulley too.

i have a lightned one and light weight crank pulley and you can feel a little more torque going into making you go fast.

add a electric fan too, that frees up a little torque.

who makes these lightened fly wheels and pulleys? or do you have to get them custom made?

This one weighs about 3.5 kg's and its made out of solid steel.

I got it locally made by Direct Clutchs here in Brisbane, cost me about $400 from a very bad memory

It is not the total weight of the flywheel but more where the weight is located.

The further from the centre the greater the momentum.

Soooo, remove weight from the outside first.

Everything past the pressure plate can go, just leaving the ring gear.

I'm pretty sure that this is covered in the "competition manual".

Anyone here done physics?
