Hi Guys,

My question is simple - can you convert a 5 speed Hydraulic Gearbox to a cable system?

...and yes - I have looked for the answer in the Tech Section.

Thanks,

Matt.

Just cut a slot in the bell housing and fit the cable clutch fork.

You will have to fabricate something off the bellhousing to support the cable.

Thant said, I haven't done it. Sit them side by side and have a look.

I installed a hydraulically operated 5-spd into another car and adapted a mechanical linkage setup without too many problems.

I ended up fabricating an extension to the clutch fork which changed the leverage point on it a bit. That made the pedal easier to operate and gave it more travel. It was very touchy at first, and didn't have much free travel.

Have a look in my images album, you need to make up a remote clutch m/c like that.

I recently purchased a 1200 sedan with an SR20 and 5 speed with the original clutch cable. A bracket has been made to hold the end of the cable this is mounted off the gearbox so that the outer part of the cable pushes the clutch fork in.
I would post a pic for you but not sure how to.

Fireblade I did try this with original clutch cable but as it has to pull to the rear the standard cable would have been too short.
I would be very very interested as to how this was done as I had to convert to hydaulic. You can send a pic to my email craigmwatson@yahoo.com.au and i can then post it.

So what's better then - hydraulic or cable?

don't bother - way too much work.

drill two holes in the bellhousing and fit a Tilton Throwout Bearing

use a stock L series clutch m/c and be done with it.
