Silly question but I don't know the answer. Will an Lseries gearbox bolt up to a RB series motor or will a RB gearbox bolt up to a L series motor. We have a R31 Auto Skyline in the backyard with a blown motor and I thought it would make a good Khanacross car. Before you go and get all upset I know its not an A series question but it is datsun related. Thanks for any help

but you can swap the gearbox casings over. ie you can use RB manual box casing and fit the L series internals, but the RB30 5spd is stronger and has a much better 2nd gear ratio. Some rally guys up here use RB30 Skyline 5spd internals on their L series rally cars.

Its not quite as simple as just changing housings. The shifter rails are different sizes so the holes on the sandwich plate and front cover section need to be either bushed or reamed depending on rails sizes. Also bearings on input shaft and counter shaft may need to be changed to suit the new housings.

olboy,i've got sitting in my shed an rb30 & auto thats only got 250k on it.it runs ok,but the auto wont go into top.thats why my friend bought a new engine & gearbox to fit.if you want,i could see if he wants to get rid of it.it's taking up an awful lot of room.
