Know what you are talking about.
I once drove on the freeway and a BMW passed me. It smelled like rotten egg.
Some other time I was on a different road and a Mercedes passed me and it also smelled like rotten egg. When they were gone some distance it did'nt smell anymore.
Only conclusion is that their exhaust fumes smelled like it.

I would suggest go to the exhaust shop and ask them about it and maybe go to a mechanic and ask him also.
Maybe it must just burn in a bit.
After I put on my freeflow exhaust it had a smell when a drove on the freeway for a while.
It is starting to go away now.

The bad smell is the converter actually working properly. And that means that its safe to breath, but not allday long. It shouldnt be able to get in the cab though.

You know what, you are right.
I always thought the smell was the nitrogen in the exhaust.
A little google tells that the smell is hydrogen sulphide and it is highly toxic.
This is what I found.
"When travelling at speed my CAT sometimes smells of rotten eggs - Why?
Sometimes, minute particles of sulphur found in the petrol can transform into hydrogen sulphide on the catalyst - generally, only occurring when there is a quick change of engine speed. This should change with age."

Are you using premium fuel or regular, that might help

The smell is caused by sulphur in the fuel. Most new cars smell during and after driving
up an incline.before you look at a mechanical reason, try changing fuel brands.
I remember alot of complaints at the Nissan Dealer I worked at and that was the Factory
reps response.

This was a hot topic back in the mid to late 80's when LFF [Lead Free Fuel] was introduced & all new cars had to use it exclusively & they were all now fitted with Cat Converters.
Fuel that was made from Australian Bass Straight crude was noticeably stronger in smell as this crude oil had a higher sulphur content, & so did the fuel that was made from it. Mobil, who used more of it than the others, had a series of TV spots trying to put a good 'spin' on it. If I remember rightly, the fuel was more volatile & engines sometimes idled a little more roughly because of it.
Pedestrians in the major cities sufferd most & this was regarded as a newsworthy item from time to time.

Anyway, as others have said, the smell is normal, but not in the cab.

Sometimes cars with bad o2 sensors make that smell. It can mean your mixture is slightly out of whack I think.

some cars do it more under load.

if that stuff is flamable rig up a couple of spark plugs to your tail pipe and make a flamer to get rid of those woeful smells. Oh, and your license pionts if a cop sees you using it
