Its just like to say a big welcome to the two newest Datsun racers. Ben Haymen & Aiden Curlewis came along to the Oran Park supersprint yesterday in a smart looking 1200 sedan. Unfortunately a blown head gasket sent them home early after just one run each. Oh well, bad luck fellas - but thats motorsport. They still managed best laps of 1:35.14 & 1:39.43 on their first ever run there (3 laps total). Do you have any pics of the sedan to show here boys?!!

I know you'll do much better in the near future, especially under Chris Peterson's guidance and help. Chris set a new record for the NSW Cams supersprint series with a 1:23.94, 0.04 faster than his last previous record. I hope Benny and R-Fast get back real soon. the datsun clan will be bigger than ever before!!

Ben, Aiden & Ben's road hack. This has an 'improved' 1200 engine with quad bike carbs.

It has signwriting now & a race number, but this was when it was fresh out of the paint booth.

Full frontal. That's an A14 with attitude in there.

"A14 with attitude"

What are the specs?

What carbs are they?

I think they said it was an A15 and the carbies are off a Kawazaki of about 600cc capacity. 38mm throats if i remember correctly.

My next question, is there a range of needles readily available for these?

This has put me off for years, I don't move in roadbike "tuner" circles.

Nah, it's an A14 that had seen a previous life in a speedway racer. It's been seriously freshened up but the exact specs are a trade secret [that means I don't know] but it's nothing radical, just good old standard hot up procedures with a carefull eye on the budget.
I donated the custom made extractors from my 1200GX that I had made about 23 years ago to the project, & a great deal of the car was made up from leftovers that were still laying around the workshop, which includes the wheels & race tyres.
It will be a great car to learn in, then it can be progressively upgraded as skill levels improve, & money allows.
It's based out of the workshop of one of the hardest-to-catch Datsun 1200 coupe's in the area as I know some of our members can attest.

Next,...the 'secret weapon' 1200 coupe will be coming from the same shop before too long. Can't wait for that.

Yeah, I thought the secret weapon (CA16 powered) 1200 was going to be Chris' ride last weekend, but apparently its not finished. He's damn hard to catch now and he'll be even quicker with the new twin cam head plus god-knows what else. I've got a lot of respect for Chris both on and off the track.

Yes Dodgeman, "the boss" has been the 3A <1600 benchmark for years. Good job by the 1000 boys to take the challenge to him - there was nothing in the results and I'm sure Chris is quietly happy to have some competition The new weapon will be good to watch - maybe the apprentices can 'inherit' Chris' current engine when he is finished
Great to see all the guys at the track and I plan to run the Wakefield park round so we can all catch up again.
Again, well done boys - those times are very good.
Cheers
