i have got a rather big problem that i need 2 clear up. My front uni joint has majorly packed itself and the ute is unsafe 2 drive. I have taken the tail shaft out and inspected and its very bad. now comes the question, can you buy replacement uni joints, or do you need 2 take it 2 a shop(diff shop) and get new ones welded on, or a whole tailshaft made up. Its for a 1981 1200 ute. Any help would be much appreciated

ive heard that the unis with that look like they been pressed in with a stubby lid arent replacable, might be wrong tho. i got a new one made with commodore unis in it.

my original tailshaft had uni's that werent replaceable... but i dont know if all 1200 utes were the same...

that could get you out of trouble cheaply..

damn, i had a feeling that was the case, i was also told about the commodore uni's. are they recommeneded and how much should i expect 2 pay??, with the commy set up do they just cut an re welded new ones on? or replaces the tail shaft as well

mine cost abut 500 for a brand new tailshaft, i was in tamworth at the time doing the toyota gearbox conversion, and it was the only place in town that did tailshafts. so i spose if u shop around you may be able to get it somewhat cheaper than i did

its a 3" kingswood tail shaft cut and balanced to fit a 4 speed manual and STD diff.

Measure up the length from the yokes I will have to find it I think it could be in a workshop at the moment or the garage.

I had it made up about 3 years ago from daniel engineering in Wollongong. it cost about $450.
If I can find it I will let it go for a good price

just a quick question, i am going 2 buy this diff, but will i have any hassles with the 3"diameter???, will it fit right, im guessing that if its come of a ute then it should be fine

The one I am replacing it with is a 2 and 3/4 and I have trial fitted that with no problems at all. The exhaust was modified but only to a 2" and it was fine with all clearances
