Got the L series running on the weekend! Gave the engine a quick tune before i was off fishing for the avo, will be on the road this week! Sounds so grunty compared to the a-series. Cannot wait, only got a 10inch thermo on for the moment, with the rad i have im sure overheating wont be a problem, will see when summer comes.

Nah the radiators a Saab 900, they have a cap on the overflow bottle and its filled from there but i just bought the inline filler when i got the radiator recored. Bonnet clearance is about a 1 and a half inches on top of the rocker cover, which will be handy if i decide to go L20 at a later date.

Well at some point, probably by the end of the year i should have my corolla running properly so that can go on the road and this will be pulled off to get a cage welded in and some bits of cancer it has fixed. But in the meantiime just want to fix any bugs it might have, have a pair of twin 42's that are screaming to go on but dont have the fuel money to throw at it right now and the su's will be sufficient on the road anyways. Then again, i can get a Z24 bottom end real easy and have a couple of L20's, thinking of a L24 with twin 42's, now that would be some power in a little 1200!

It purrs like a kitten, & roars like a Lion. Re. the L24. Isn't that a six cylinder engine?

Yeah it is but you can stroke a L20 to 2.4L (apparently) using Z24 crank and rods, not sure on specifics but having a full time mechanic as a mate will make any issues just more of a challenge.

I looked into doing the same thing for my 200B. The Z24 timing case gasket is a different part number to the L20B, but the Z20 & Z22 gasket is the same. This was the first clue to the fact that the Z24 has a taller block, but the Z20 & Z22 are the same height as the L20B.
The Z22 uses a 2mm larger bore & of course a longer stroke, so it is possible to buy a junk Z22 short block, bore the L20B block to suit the used Z22 pistons & install the Z22 crank & rods straight in to make a 2.2 litre L20B. [L22?] Because of the longer stroke of the Z24, it would be necessary to make other arangements with regard to rod length &/or piston crown height.
When I was checking I found it was cheaper to buy the Z22 short block, bore the L series & install the bits with new rings & bearings etc, than to rebuild the L20B with new pistons etc. Go figure. In the end I just overhauled a spare L20B as a temporary measure, ... six years ago.
Hopefully someone here will have the good oil on the parts required to make an L24B
