I wanted to remove the gauge cluster in my 1972 1200 sedan and paint the casing. Im not talking about the dash. the dash holds the casing which holds the gauges. Anyways, I would love it if someone can give me a tip on how to remove it.

Thanks so much for your help!!

- 3 screws at the back
- speedo cable
- round electrical connector
- light switch
- wiper switch
- cigarette lighter
- clutch cable
- radio.
- possibly the wires off the clock (if optionally fitted)

All of these things need to be removed.

Chris

If you plan on doing your own maintainance & repair, then one of these will be the best bargain you will ever buy for your car.

If you don't want this particular one, then save this site to your favorites list & check regularly for bargains.

oh yeah ..choke cable.

I'm at work, and I keep getting interrupted.

I agree that a factory workshop manual or haynes is a good investment.

Take the top off the steering wheel column too, that helps heaps. You know, the plastic surround :)

Hi datsolady,

Pictures and information on removing the dash are here: Dashboard Removal And Reinstall

Example:

etc. You can decide from the photos whether you can get the gauge cluster out without removing the dash. My experience is that it is much easier to remove the entire dash.

Are you in the Seattle area? I might be able to help, I've removed and reinstalled gauges a few times now.
