Custom gearbox crossmember.Bolted to floor.

Hi all.

I am about to embark on the search for a 63A dogleg gearbox here in South Africa.
I know that I must remove the old tunnel mounts to fit it in the gearbox tunnel.
I inspected some members photos to see how they fitted the mounting.
My problem is the custom gearbox mount.
I crawled under the car this weekend and noticed the floor is so soft.
I could press the metal with my thumb and it would flex.
Those of you who bolted it through the floor.
Is yours still holding up with some abuse?
Will it not tear through this metal after some time?
B120dat I know you are one who have done this conversion.

Any info appreciated. Here are some pictures I got of other members mounts.

those pics will need to be uploaded for us to see them.

My celica box X-member bolts up through the floor with 2 bolts on each side and sandwich plates under the carpet to prevent it pulling through. I nevver flogged it but it seemed plenty solid to me.

yep plates on the inside of the floor should do the trick. I've had my 1600 running like this for ages with no problems.

Just make sure they are reasonable size to spread the load.

Unless you are going with a turbo A15 I would suggest that you also look at the 60 series five speed.
It's physicly smaller, so it will be easier to fit, it's lighter, & it should handle just about any A series that can be comfortably be driven on the road except heavily boosted A14/15's. I suspect that this gearbox is what is being used in the Bakkie & if this is true, then it should be easier to find & it should be readily serviced through your Nissan dealer.

Damn it. That is what happens when you have posted pictures too long ago and forgot how to do it.
Sorry about it.

Anyway, I see most of you understand what I am talking about.I am also thinking about sandwich plates on the inside and outside to sort of "clamp" the whole thing to the floor when the bolts are tighten.
I was just afraid that it will tear the body open if stress are put on the assembly and bolts going through the floor idea.

Thanks for the idea. Sorry, I got mixed up with the gearbox codes.
I am basically looking at the bakkie 5 speed here in South Africa and the dogleg 5 speed that were used on A series engines.
Maybe the bakkie 5 speed is easier to find and cheaper to keep running if something breaks.
Must just find out what gear ratio is used in them. I don't want a high revving gearbox.
The bakkie here is a half ton one and maybe the gearbox is designed to run higher revs to carry the loads easier.

best thing to do with the mounts in my opinion is to find a 180b, and cut the gearbox crossmember mounts out of its floor

then u clean them up and weld them to the side of the chassis rail in the 1200, much stronger and looks factory

thats what in doing for the L series and ive also found that a 180b gearbox crossmember will pretty much go straight in using that method, just need to modify the bulge for the exhaust, make it less of a bulge

id assume the 63a (for the A series) would use the same mounts as other L series gearboxes?
