front wheel hub assembly

I have just bought a pair of 120Y front struts with calipers, swaybar and brackets, but they are missing the discs, wheel hubs and anything else that comes after the spindle. I have been searching through the tech section looking for notes on wheel hubs bearings discs and how it all bolts together. Can I use my standard 1200 wheel hubs with the new struts? I am going to buy a pair of new discs for the front and a caliper rebuild kit, but I am not able to find new wheel hubs.

You'll have to make a trip to the wreckers. I found out very early that the detachable hubs are almost more important than everything else in the front end.

Also note that there are two sizes of axles affectionately known as large and small. Many of the A-series stuff is small, and some of the L-series stuff has the large (not all).

Also note, while I'm at it, that there are at least 5 different hub offsets. Which can greatly change your wheel base and required wheel offsets.

We almost got into a biffo with a employee at a smithfield wreckers once, because he said that all wheels have the same offset. The guy was definitely an expert knob jockey.

ok hmmm I can remember that the donor 120Y was a 77 model and actually I can remember the car had the front wheel hubs still attatched when I looked at it last week but just noticed that they are missing! that would be right, you ask for the whole assembly and they give it to me for $100 then when you go back for the hubs they will charge me another $50 each or something crazy like that.......BUYERS BEWARE!

Thats like some guy at a wreckers telling me all datsun parts are interchangeable when i was looking for a L4 head and he was trying to sell me an a-series...

Yes thats true becaues i bought wheel bearings for my 280zx hubs and they also fit 1600,180b,stanza etc.
120y and 1200 are same.

Are your struts drum or disc that are on the car?

My 73 1200 sedan has drums on each corner of the car, I bought the 120Y struts and swaybar to upgrade to disc brakes at the front but was'nt too fussed about the old discs missing as I was planning on buying new discs and rebuilding the calipers anyway, but if I can't buy new hubs then I am left with un-useable struts

Parts come and go, last week i threw out 2 sets of 120y struts, and a pair of 1200 coupe struts.

They are so easy to find, dont stress, someone will help im sure, hell if your willing to pay post i can go grab some next week from the wreckers, he will give them to me for a few beers i reckon.

OK, now you need to determine if the donor car is an imported model, or a locally built sedan.

Locally built sedans from July '76 onwards used locally made Lockheed brakes which are quite different from the Jap ones. They use a different piston diameter in the caliper & therefore, need a different bore size in the master cylinder if pedal pressure & travel is to stay within limits.
This can mess up the rear brakes as the imported 1200 brakes use a different size wheel cylinder bore size to the donor car that provided the front brakes etc. etc.

Make sure that any replacement hubs are the right ones for your struts/ brakes

righto, just got back from the wreckers, turns out they never sell struts with brake discs or wheel hubs!!!! but they said they would sell me the pair that came off my struts for $30 each! I talked them down to $20 each.
I will rebuild them with new bearings and rebuild the PBR calipers too. Is there a how to guide for wheel bearings or calipers? if not I will make one and post it up
