Hey ppl....... brand new to the forum and Datsun ownership and yep..... I gotta stupid question or two.

Have bought a 1980 Sunny for fun. Dunno much about it and have only seen it at night. Paid $150 for it, so it ain't in concourse condition. Goin' to pick it up this weekend, so I can't even go outside and have a look at it.

Plan is to old-skool-cool the sucker. You know, venetian, whitewalls and serious slammage. Maybe a nanna style sunvisor and bang some nice chrome VIP style mirrors right near the front on top of the front guards.

Anyway, here's my stupid questions.

Firstly, it's a 1980 model. What do I do as far as putting fuel in this thing? Should I be using high octane unleaded and an upper cylinder lubricant such as flash-lube?

Now, dumping it........ are we talkin' coils in the front and leafs in the back? That would be okay cos then I'll just slot some blocks in the back and compress the front coils. Has anyone used coil clamps to lower their car? I know about them, but never seen them used, so I dunno if they are any good/safe/effective?

Also, I tried to insure it for the drive home when I pick it up, but they wanted to know if it's a 1.2,1.3 or 1.5. I have no idea, but when I get to it is it really obvious what size motor it has or can someone give me some tips as how I can tell?

Okay, that'll do for now...... I'm sure I will have more questions once I actually pick the car up.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Got a first question for you - are you in Australia or America...I'm guess from your engish it's one of those two countries. Most likely Australia too if your refering to a 1980 as a Sunny.

Those coil clamps sound dodgy - particularly when you could get a set of stiffer king springs for a $100 or so. I doubt coil clamps are particularly safe but its been shown I'm no expert.

It's most likely to be a 1.2, if its a station wagon it could be a 1.5.

You can use normal unleaded without any risk to you valve seats.

Hows that for a start - there is also an excellent Tech Section (link on the left of this screen) has heaps of info to get you started.

Thanks heaps Mildman. I'm in Adelaide to be precise. The reason I am considering the coil clamps is that I'm on a mission to prove that you can build a head-turning car for stuff all. That's why I bought a $150 car.

The $100 coils probably are a smarter option, but we'll see. What sort of outlet would stock them if I wanted them? Are they something that places would have in stock or I'd have to order? How much lower would they get me?

Thanks for the pointer to the Tech section and fuel info dude. Cheers.
