In the vacinity of 60-80hp depnds on what other mods you have planed a nice cam some headwork & higher comp will bring it up over the 100 mark (at the flywheel)

Prob $500-$1500. Depending on how far you go.

100hp from an A series might not be a lot when compared to, say, an FJ20T on 15lb of boost, but it's a lot lighter, & when used in a light car like a 1200 or 1000, you will be amazed at just how well it will perform.

If you are looking for a top performing street 1200 at a very reasonable price, you can't go past an A14/15 with some pep-up improvements.

My old 1000 sedan had nothing more than a big bore 1200GX for about 15 years on the road & I still have the fondest of memories of it. It was the most fun car I ever had & the grin had to be surgicly removed. It is still remembered with a wry grin by a few of my mates even today.
That's why I am attempting to build an 'improved' replica of it with just an A13 engine.

Don't knock it. GO the A series.

Exactly dodgeman some people say I want want 150 or 200 hp but have never even driven a 1200 with even 100hp!! 100hp in a well balanced 1200 would be probably quicker around the track than say a 180hp stock FJ20 as they are massive making for a very front end heavy car.
Before I run the race A15 and A14 I had a A12gx engine with twin sus ect in a 120y that was setup as a rally engine it would of had around 90odd hp its was still bloody quick. And lots of fun too.
Cheers Andrew

i have an a15 with a mild cam, extractors and a stock carby for now and i can feel the stock carby choking the engine when the cam comes on full song at 3500rpm... just waiting to put the su's on but i dont expect more than 90-100hp, but then again i could be supprised as it was tinkered with at the old datsun performance center 4years ago when rebuilt...

I just bought a ported out, shaved A14 head with new valves, hi-po springs, new valve stem seals, a 54/86 cam, twin mikuni carburettors and intake/exhaust manifolds for $1250 Australian, the head work alone would cost more than that and bolted onto a fresh, balanced bottom end could make 100hp at the wheels with help from an electronic hi-energy ignition set up like that transferred from the bluebird series 2.
With a good diff and right gear ratio the car will be very fun and suprisingly quick
