from the tech section:

Stock Datsun 1200 Differential
The stock rear-end assembly works great for the A12 or the A14 engine. This is the H145 (145mm diameter ring gear). The diff is open (non-limited-slip) and the diff assembly unbolts from the front of the axle assembly (like Ford 9", but much smaller). All 1200's (except newer utes) had the H145. Sedan and coupe had a 3.89 and the wagons had 4.1 ratio. Wagons and vans have alloy center.

Datsun Competition (later Nismo) used to sell various ratios: 3.9, 4.111, 4.375, 4.625
LSD (Limited-Slip Differential) units were also available from Datsun Competition.
Axle baffles and Oil Coolers were available from Nissan Competition
Good for maybe 100 lb. ft. of torque

Mid to late model 1200 sedans? Ah, a subject i love to talk about. Sedans were made from 1970-1973. Sold through "1974" models in New Zealand, and reportedly up to 1978 in South Africa(?). See Datsun 1200 History, Models and Production.

For 1971-1973, ratios were 3.9:1. That's it. No others for both Sedan and Coupe. I have updated the Tech Section (which incorrectly said 3.89).

My parts book shows that the crownwheel/pinion tooth count to be 39/10 for all 1200 passenger models as standard.
There have been some reports of an alloy differential in 4.11 to 1 ratio that was used in the Wagon [Van] in Australia & these appear to be Datsun 1000 sedan/coupe diffs that were installed in Australia either by the state distributor, or individual dealers to customer order.

The Australian sales brochure clearly states that the standard Wagon ratio is the same as the others at 3.9 to 1

Yet workshop Manuals clearly state:
sedan and coupe 3.900:1
station sedan and van 4.111:1
They are some dodgy books you have there. Were they written by yourself and thats why they are dodgy?

Sorry fellers
Australian sales brochure, dated 11-72. Publication number NM 6002
This shows the full passenger model range on offer in Australia.
The relevant info is the last item under 'Transmission'
