I'm going to replace my factory carb (among other things!), and I wanted something a little different. Has anyone used bike carbs on a A series? If so, what size did you use and from which bike?

Motorcycle carbs have been used very successfully on Datsun A series engines, both as twin and quad setups.

You would need to fabricate your own manifold whichever way you went.

Something like Keihin FCRs are probably the way to go,I would be trying to get 40mm or as close as you could.

This type of setup can cost a lot, the ones pictured probably were over $2000 but it can be done on a budget for a couple of hundered if you hunt around the wreckers and can make your own manifold.

Well setup motorcycle carbs are superior to Webers and are only bettered by fuel injection.

I'm looking for a more buget oriented solution...$2000 is a little steep for me!

I'll be looking for a bike to donate it's carbs on my behalf. I can figure out and fab a manifold for just about any carb set, but I need help on the carb selection.

I'm thinking of a 600cc bike, because their hp is around the 120 mark, which is what a good modded A engine can do. Even though they rev higher, I'll have double the displacement so it kind of works out.

Does anyone have any personal experience with this or will I be breaking new ground for members of this forum?

yeh mate, at the VERY LEAST a 600cc.
wot 600cc has 120 hp? a yzR1 has 175 Hp @ 12500 rpm and its a 4cyl 100ccl.
the YZF600R has just 82hp at 11500rpm.

my 2 bob would be to try and find a yamaha yzR1 or R6. or any other make of superbike.
it'll be better if you have carbs that are more than fine, then having to upgrade them come your next mod...

i was gonna do the same thing you were but i found an engine with everything i needed, for the same price as what that carb set up was going to cost
