Hey all just curious what the going cost is for a full respray these days (completely strip the ute) also rust repair and straighten panels... I know it comes down to colour how many coats etc etc but can somebody give me a rough idea. Also do the paint and penal shops strip the car for you or do the owners have to do it ?

im sure a penal shop would strip the panels, but youde probly never see em again

ittd probably be easier to strip the car right down and get it trucked there, then whack it back together when you get it back.
might save a bit of cash, also if you strip the paint off before you take it in it might save a bit in labour too.
as for the cost, i got quoted between 8000 and 15000 for a bare matal respray on my 260z with a timeframe of 5 months!!!. noone wants to do old cars no more. there is more money in insurance work for them.
so far i have spent a substantial amount less by doing the body and paint myself. and that includes the cost of a good mig and an air compressor.

Minimum from my panel beater for strip and spray (assuming a near perfect body) $5000 - not much less if you do the prep work either.

It is cheaper of course to do yourself....but I understand you will not have any fingers left after it after all the sanding, sanding and more sanding!

yep, its all about how good a job you want, and youll be lucky to get a solid quote because(every paint shop guy said it)"you never know what the condition is under the paint mate."
luckily i didnt come acrosss a great deal of rust when i stripped it myself.

Amen to that...........

I was quoted $5k from one shop & $3.5k from another.

I ended up getting my brother-in-law's mate to do it for $1500 + paint..... $2400 all up.
Sounds like a good price until you take into account the fact it took him over a year!

My neighbor and I painted his Pantera. It took us 6 months of Saturdays, and few odd evenings here and there to prep it for paint. The Pantera only had one slight dent and required a 10 minute welding repair. The bulk of the time was spent blocking out each panel until it was perfect. The photo doesn't do it justice, but a great paint job is mostly in the prep.
