it is pretty tempting to make the 1000 a rally car but it woudnt work because of the transverse leaf.
The spring should have no effect on whether or not the 1000 would make a good rally car. This spring simply holds the car up via its double wishbone suspension.
Ford cars from before 1908 used a transverse spring that not only suspended the car but also located the front [& rear] axle, & the high roll center, which was where the spring locates in the middle of the cross member, was not the most desirable of designs for competition use. Ford was still using this buggy spring into the early 50's.
The only connection between the Ford & Datsun suspensions lie in the fact that both use a leaf spring, & both are mounted transversly. Nothing else is shared between the two front suspension designs.
The 1000 uses a well engineered wishbone suspension design that simply substitutes a space saving leaf spring instead of using a space hogging coil spring.
