Looks great Ian and I'm glad such a fantastic car has gone to someone who will look after it. Don't lose the motivation to get your 1000 on the tarmac now!!

Thanks, yeah after sliding through the bush it is pretty tempting to make the 1000 a rally car but it woudnt work because of the transverse leaf. Anyway, now we will have the best of both worlds!

Has anyone ever navigated before?

Things happen so quickly and there are so many things to think about, I reckon it requires just as much concerntration as the driver.

The spring should have no effect on whether or not the 1000 would make a good rally car. This spring simply holds the car up via its double wishbone suspension.
Ford cars from before 1908 used a transverse spring that not only suspended the car but also located the front [& rear] axle, & the high roll center, which was where the spring locates in the middle of the cross member, was not the most desirable of designs for competition use. Ford was still using this buggy spring into the early 50's.
The only connection between the Ford & Datsun suspensions lie in the fact that both use a leaf spring, & both are mounted transversly. Nothing else is shared between the two front suspension designs.

The 1000 uses a well engineered wishbone suspension design that simply substitutes a space saving leaf spring instead of using a space hogging coil spring.

Chris do you think there is enough adjustability in the spring? The suspension is working really hard and I doubt better shocks would be enough. Perhaps you could get the transverse leaf reset?
