I'm curious about low cost, creative solutions to dealing with a cracked dash pad. What does the metal dash look like underneath? Anyone just leave it off and the metal under exposed? How does it look? Any other low budget options?

don't pull it off... i definately won't look good. plus you wouldn't want to hit your head on it in a prang.
I have a dash mat on mine, and you can't see the cracks under that.
apparently its not hard to recover yourself either.

I wa told by a profesional retrimmer to put bog in it and paint it black(or whatever colour your dash is)!!!
I donno about that, but could work i guess. My Z has a mat and looks tops, the wags is all bowed out of shape and cracked... havnt done anything about it yet tho

Leaving the dash pad off is illegal as it is a required part of the occupant crash protection in these newer model cars of ours.

i recovered mine in my old 1200 coupe. just sand down any high bits and put some woding on the top and use contact glue and a heat gun to stretch vinyl over the whole thing.

Got any pics. Mine is just starting to raise a tiny bit in the far corners, no other cracks though!

by some vinyl (must be strechy stuff) and some foam cloth. use the foam to cover the holes then get some glue and stick it down it looks like new i did it and it only took like 2 hrs max. you can either make a tight fold for the sides by using an iron with a hanky and more glue or borrow a sewing machine and sew it. its not hard. i would show photos of mine but my camera got pinched

rock1200 dont recover it if its just starting to lift in the corners, go to dash original and they should be able to fix it for you, i got mine remoulded there, come up new like factory and cost $275 including glovebox lid.
