Well, there was a great amount of debate on this site, albeit a bloody long time ago now.
And I can report from personal experience. That my spring loaded locker ("phantom grip") works.
I did a test yesterday, on a concrete driveway. I broke traction, and gently held it with the brake. Low and behold two skid marks.
So a big thanks to 1200coupe, (Paul) for all his patient answers to my questions, and his advise.
I might build one into a 4.1:1 h165 next. With a bit more rubber, I can probably utilise the lower gearing.

More of a spring loaded locker. Been discussed in detail. The long term performance is still a bit 'iffy'. But if you can maintain it yourself, then it's not so bad at all.. If it can pull a two wheel burnout, and doesn't screech around corners in a carpark, then it's good in my books.

The one Paul made works great in the rally car. It is designed so when you back off the power it unlocks, unsettling the rear end ready to back it into a corner (a good thing).

Yeah back when first started racing they didn't have them , I was forced to race the guys with locked rear wheel drive , mine still being open , the only thing was I could eat 'em up in the turns ,lol

It does "push" a bit into corners, but my car is so rickety and creaky, that it's abit hard to tell whats going on.
