Wobbling Steering

While driving, let say if my front left wheel hits an uneven part of the road, the whole steering wobbles, and the car sways to the left. The same happens if it occurs to the right.

The steering will rotate on its own clockwise & anti clockwise & clockwise again...all the way until i hold it back firmly again. It seems like there is no damping on the absorbers. But, i just had it checked . Besides, my springs are heavy duty ones...

Any ideas guys??...Thank u..

The shock sounds like its sent the camber, toe, steering adjustments crazy. I recommend a wheel alignment.

Done wheel alignment, seems perfect.

If im driving at ( say 100kph or even 150kph ), and let go off the steering, the car maintains straight without any problems. Camber is currently -1 degrees on both sides

good stuff was thinking about takin my wagon to get a wheel alignment because it was doing the same thing as yours.

Check the ball joints, idler arm, centerlink, and other steering components. Those symptoms are signs of a worn out front end.

My car was showing the same signs as yours, (but not as bad) and the idler arm bushes were completely gone. I also replaced the center link and tie rod ends, and it really improved the ride and handling.

yeah I'd be inclined to agree with Duncan. My 1200 had much the same problem when the bottom ball joints were gone. My advice would be to jack up the front of the car by part of the chassis (so that all suspension is hanging free) and shake the wheels to check for slop. This should help you locate the source of the problem

If all the ball & steering joints are in good serviceable condition, & the wheel alignment is correct, then this will NOT happen.

It's time to bring all your variables under control as I don't think too much of the place where you got your alignment done. Check, & replace if necessary, any of the steering & suspension joints, including the idler arm bushes.

Let me understand you correctly, you are driving your car with this dangerous steering condition at speeds up to 150 kph [94 mph] with your hands off the wheel?

It's not the camber you should be worried about so much, it's the caster, which should be +1 degree 10 minutes in a 1200

I had an old Corolla I didn't particularly care about and it haad a hideous shudder while driving.

I drove it like that for 3 months and one day I looked at the fron tyre and it had a huge egg in it.

I changed it over and the car drove straight as an arrow!

The morale - it could be as simple as tyre wear, but as far as yours sounds, maybe not

check your wheel balance aswell, my landcruiser was shuddering at around 80clicks and got the wheel aligned and balanced much beta but then it turned out the wheels were ####ed for some reaosn

Yup, 150kph with hands off...just to test..hehe...still alive though...

I jacked the car up, shook the tyres and it was not very firm. I really suspect the idler arm. Idler arm is about 10-15 cm long right?..Correct me if im wrong.

Or, perhaps could it relate to the steering box?. By the way, there is a screw to tighten the steering tightness right?
