Howdy all.
Got me a ute diff(drum to drum) and a 5 speed 60a today for my wagon. very happy.cough cough 400 cough dollars cough
anyway, the drums on the ute diff are pretty rusty (rest of diff is good) so what i want to know is...
Are the drums on the standard h145 the same as the ute ones?? they will fit or not ?also will the hole brake setup interchange between diff housings/axle tubes????
Cheers
Chris

wat year is the ute were the diff came from cause dopnt the newer ones have h165 and iolder ones h145, if you have the h165 get a bluey rear end and convert to DISK yumy

You'll have to remove axle bearings to get the drum backing plates off to swap drum assemblies, dont know if they will swap onto the diff housing.

I think, double check this, 1200 H145 drum assm is smaller than 1200 Ute H165, Stanza should be the same as the ute as they are H165, If your swapping stuff over, while your at it you may as well use the bluey rear disc setup, have a search for that i think rallycar and dodgeman were discussing it a while back.

If you have front disks, you'll need to swap the wheel cylinders over.

i know h150 120y drums are the same as ute ones, and i doubt that h145 drums are smaller than h150

so id say they are the same

Heres what 1200rallycar told me when i asked about the conversion.

basically the bluebird disc rear ends are a bolt in thing to h165 diffs, only difficult part is swapping the backing plates from the bluebird onto the ute axles (requires new standard bearings and a 4 tonne press to change them over)

everything else is bolt up, the disc actually have drums inside them for the handbrake, bluey series 2 and 3 and trx's generally have these rear discs

i am gonna do it when tthe rear axle comes out next month

they came off series 2 trx bluebirds, maybe some other series 2s as well and possibally series 1 trx's, they did not come on series 3s as they had h190s

the easiest way to tell, find a series 1 or 2 bluebird and see if it has rear discs, if it does then take them
you will be best off getting the whole diff and pulling it apart later, but you can just take the axels out leaving the brakes on and you should have pretty much every thing you need

thanks Pigdog and Dats_al. good info there. i have never really looked for bluebirds in nz so will be interesting to see how popular they are down here. Its also interesting to see that this info isnt in the tech section.... wats up with that???
lol hopefully i can sort that out soon. will be good to have disks all round instead of drums all round lol.
Cheers

ohk just to clarify some things to make it easier to find... im looking for solid axle brake assembly aye?
Because there are some irs bluebirds around.. will they have the same brake setup and fit the h165 ?

Or will they tottaly not and i need the disks from the early series that have solid axle and are not h190 diffs??
cheers
