Hay, Now that the front of my ute has disc brakes (they are awsome) I now want to convert my rear drums to disc.

I am chasing a series 2 BLUEBIRD TRX complete rear diff or all the disc brake components including the backing plates, discs, calipers and lines. I live in Townsville North QLD, PLEASE HELP.

I've just done this conversion on my Stanza (H165). The parts for this setup are really hard to find for one reason. When mechanics press the bearings off the TRX axle the backing plates have a tendency to break (this happened to mine).

The mechanic that broke mine had to ship one from Melbourne to Newcastle ($165 for the backing plate and axle).
Total setup (including swaping axles) cost around $350.

If I had my time again I would go for R31 rears. Are cheaper and easier to swap.

There's my 2 cents worth.

350....

done it a lot cheaper than that, everything bolts up, just need new wheel bearings ($70) and initial purchase of brakes ($100 or less if find a nice wrecker)

admitedly the backing plates are aloy and tend to crack, but still can be used, just be super careful when pressing em off

just dont let a blind man press them off, i cant see how with the right equiptment you would get anything neat the backing plate

and for $350 you could have half an R31 diff in the car, if you found one for free

and R31 caliper brackets are pretty easy to modifly, i looked into using some not long ago, but then i got the rest of the skyline for free so i desided i would wait and put the whole diff in

Why just series 2?
The series 1 & 3 TRX also had the discs along with the series 1, 2, & 3 LX model. [except for some VERY early build series 1 LX cars] This might give you a bigger pool to draw from.

Can anyone shed any light on the R31 rear brakes and how they are easier to mount?

The R31 skyline/pintara rear discs and calipers mount between the backing plate on the axle and the diff housing. This means you don't need to replace bearing, swap axles etc. You can get a complete R31 rear brake setup for $250 ($120 if your lucky). There no labour and bearing costs.

The R31 caliper brackets (and discs) should bolt straight up (assuming no big difference between Stanza H165 and ute H165), with the only prob being the handbrake cables.
