Hi

my 1200 ute has been running perfectly till this afternoon, started it, reversed from the driveway drove few metres and it stalled.

if I hold/rev higher than normal idle it idles but rough like it wants to stall, as soon as you let go of the accelerator pedal it stalls.

Did not replace or change anything, nothing was touched.
Fuel tank is half full, checked the carby if it squirts fuel and it does, fuel float level is spot on. There's oil and water.

I'll check ignition timing but i dont understand why would it change if I havent touched the engine.

Any ideas?

if its the idle solenoid, it should idle/run normally if I hold the accelerator pedal to a certain rev. But the engine kinda idles rough like wants to stalls its not a consistent rev noise.

Even though the carby squirts fuel in does not mean its perfect. All you are really testing is the acclerator/power circuit. There could be a small blockage in the idle circuit of the carby. If it runs nice threugh the mid and high rpm range but poor at idle that could be it. Also check battery voltage at low rpm if possible. Low voltage means weak spark.

sounds like electrical problem to me if it won't idle and runs rough at higher rpm.
I would first check easy things like ignition timing and points gap, if they seem normal try looking at the plugs and high tension leads if all that seems normal it could be a vacuum leak around the carby base or intake manifold to head ports.
my guess is points have gone bad

it revs fine guessing around 1500+rpm
less than that it kinda surge revs if you let go stalls straight away.
I'll check all that stuff tomorrow then, and will let you guys know the outcome.

Cheers

going by that it sounds like the idle mixture screw has vibrated itself in a bit?
I had the same problem on my weber 38 DGAS carb, I put an O-ring on the screw to stop vibrations altering the setting

I doubt the mixture as you can tell if the mixture is lean or rich when idling above 1500rpm

I've got a feeling maybe vacuum leak
