what do you mean by rebuild ?

You need more than just a kit you need to get the block bored, check everything ect ect.

A "rebuild" doesn't need the block bored -- that is a repair step, not a rebuild step.

A kit is about $250. It comes with all the gaskets -- a "full" gasket set, which includes the more common head gasket set along with oil pan, water pump, etc gaskets. Rebuild kit also includes new bearings and rings.

Definitions:

Overhaul: put the engine back to factory specifications

Rebuild: no specific definition. Depends on who's talking

Re-manufacture: marketing term to mean an engine put together to match factory specifications e.g. "as new". It does *not* mean all-new parts. At the very least, the block will be used, as may other parts.

Blueprint: All the specifications and tolerances were double-checked. Usually this indicates closer-than-factory specifications, with custom specifications appropropriate for a street car or a race car. The goal *usually* is to:
1. Ensure the engine puts out the rated horsepower.
2. Eke two or three more horsepower out of it, by more careful measurement and assembly

None of these terms necessarily mean new pistons, block line-boring, balancing, etc. The proof is in the fine print. Get in writing all the details from the engine builder before shelling out the money.

In Australia.

Minor Overhaul = Ususlly a ring & valve job, designed to restore compression in an engine in good condition. Often done without removing engine from the chassis.

Major Overhaul = To restore all working tolerances to within 'service specifications'. Requires total dismantling of engine.

Recondition = To restore ALL working tolerances to 'NEW' specifications in an existing engine. Block, head, crank & rods are normally re-used unless they are unserviceable.
Remanufacture is sometimes used in Australia to mean the same thing.

Rebuild. A term sometimes used by shysters to describe an engine that they are selling. It has no formal meaning, but usually hints at much more than was actually done.

I think that Datto_Lowrider93 wants to do a major overhaul which is often the best & most cost effective way to restore an engine in basicly sound condition. You will need access to precision measuring equipment [ie micrometers] & a workshop manual which will describe the procedures & provide the necessary dimentions. A cylinder hone will also be required.
