That depends on, ...
1. what you call a 'rebuild'
2. if you can buy parts at trade discount
3. on whether you are able to do this 'rebuild' yourself, or you have it done professionally.

Boring $120
Pistons $270
Bearings $120+
Gaskets $120

Just a assessment on some of the stuff so $800 easy.

If you include your basic location in your profile, you just might get a recomendation for someone near you.

If your engine needs just a major overhaul, then any reputable repairer should be able to provide a quote.

If your engine needs reconditioning, then the number of reconditioners in your area may limit your choices, but once again, you would need to get a quote from at least one of them to get some idea of what you are up for.

you do get what you pay for sometimes.

I feel my $1500 was "high" but the engine was good as new, fired up ran fine, doesn't leak or smoke, got over 10,000 miles on it now, close to 8,000 on LPG and it's as good as new.

they put a cam in it and it may have a few other tweaks.

this is far superior to the many $400 used and abused japanese engines i was talked in to, many of which never made it to 3000 miles.

if you do the work yourself, then you can spend every penny on better quality stuff.

I pay people to do things like clutches and engine installs because i'm lazy and don't feel up to that stuff yet.

oversized pistons and double spring valves, very good, goes very hard.

I had an a12 rebuilt for $2500 and a set of 40 doce webbers and a manifold over from england brand new for another $2500. I didnt relize there would be some much tax on the import and had to use a broker to get it here. But it goes well about 45kwatts at the wheels and goes up to 9krpm no worries
