when i try to get into gear when the ute is cold it is very dificult to get into 1st or reverse. also it crunches alot when trying to get into reverse. when the car has been driving around for a while they are ok. is there sumthing that needs to be adjusted, linkages or sumthing?

Sounds like it needs a oil change. where about is the friction point on your clutch???(when car starts to move)near the floor or just at the start???

If ur friction point is near the firewall it may not be fully disengageing it properly when pressed which would cause the gears to still be turning when changing gears hence the crunching and it being hard to shift.dont belive me u try change gears without a clutch. If u change the oil dont use diff oil as this is too thick and would make it hard to change gears.best to use is actually auto oil dextron 3 stuff as even proper gear oil is too thick sometimes.

ps: if clutch is too far it will just slip during driving

It's the syncros..and reverse is almost always a little tricky to get in gear. Might be broken or worn out selecter forks too. if the shifter is sloppy from work bushes, it might be that too.

Could be that the oil in the gearbox is too thick. Probably as good a time as any to replace the gear oil. Get the lightest gear oil you can. This will allow the synchros to spin up faster, meaning less chance of crunching.

If it still does it after the oil change (or the gearbox), then go looking for another one. The cost to rebuild a 1200 box would be prohibitively expensive, compared to a $100 2nd hand one.
