is it internally or externally regulated (the one you have now)?

Im using an internally reg one from a sunny a15 on the a15. they are pretty much the same.

Have a ford falcon internally reg one (bosch 70 amp one :) ) that im modding the mounts on to fit the datsun mounts (its in the shed and i keep forgetting to finish it).

should be good for an upgrade soon too.

1200rc modded an ea falcon one 90amps i thing for his.

I've got a vl commodore one on mine. Brackets are the same size, I think we had to change the pulley and maybe put an extra washer behind it to space the belt correctly. I believe it is 80 amp also, plenty of power for the crane hi 6.

Standard A15 alternator is 50 amps. That's plenty for a Datsun 1200.

Pictures, diagrams and information on alternator swaps are here: club wiki - Alternator Swaps.

Too many amps?

No -- if you put a high-amperage alternator on, it won't cause a problem. But why bother? It will weigh more and cause more drag on the engine -- both of which lower power by a bit and use more gasoline.

Yes -- if you put a big load on the alternator (High-output headlights + driving lights + big stereo amplifier) you could draw too much amps for a stock alternator. This would be bad.
