thermo and stock fan
Guest_
would running a 10inch electric fan as a push fan infront of the rad as well as the stock fan cause a problem with airflow through the radiator? air disruption into the stock fan etc?

Just wondering on these hot hot melbourne days.

New raditor works great when moving but stock fan cant seem to pull enough air through the twin core when sitting in traffic. seems to acto more like a heat sink than anything. but when moving temp drops really quick.

Would like to keep stock fan setup but wondering if both would be overkill.

Will replace thermo on week end too, just incase this is a cause.

your fan is probably not cooling as good on idle because its not spinning as fast..

i cant see a problem with running a thermo as a backup.. its probably a good idea...id put it on a thermo switch

just make sure your fan blades are facing the right way.. and make sure you have the correct polarity when wiring it up...

fitting a shroud would make your clutch fan
a lot more efficient also

why not just put on the electric fan and piss the stockyoff the thermo will cool plenty, especially if u say the radiator works well.

i've got a 10" temperature controlled thermo in front of my stock replaced radiator and it works fine.
if you were going to run it all the time with the mechanical fan removed than i would suggest getting a second thermo for the engine side of the radiator. i've found one 10" alone isn't enough on 30+ days on long drives plus you get the added security if one fails.
most important is attaching a shroud for the thermo engine side, it makes a huge difference.

Agreed that a 10" electric fan by itself is not enough.

Put the optional factory engine shroud on your car. They came with Air Conditioned cars, or as an option for warm climates. They are most common on B310s, but some B110s had them. The factory engine fan is very good, and the shroud makes it pull a lot more air.

i have never found a factory shroud anywhere for the datsuns, i have seen other cars with them but to buy one, never found one at a wreckers.

will try a new thermo stat and 10inch push fan if thats no good, will have to find a donor shroud

damn siezing thermostat seems to be the cause... will still look for a shroud soon though to further drop the temp. that stock fan does suck a heap of air though

In B110 models, the shroud was used on auto trans equiped cars.
I can't speak for any of the others.

Auto 180B's have a shroud, shouldn't be too much different nothing some cable ties can't fix!

well new thermostat fixed some of the problem, still having a problem with temp under load.

When idling temp holds steady, when crusing its steady (although higher than at idle) but when engine under load it raises till i reach cruisng speed.

Temp doent exceed 200 f now (before thermostat and radiator change was up to 210 and thats when i switch it off to cool down).

im thinking not enough airflow through twin core radiator, faulty radiator cap (but no overflow when at temp) or even possible worn out water pump.

remeber its only doing this when ambient temp is over 30deg c...
