Just did a little homework cause I am still deciding on what engine to build for my 1200 ute. I went to Ebay and this is what I came up with.

CA18...... SR20
Cams $420usHKS(2nd hand).$450aus NEW
Injectors $280 -320us.... $305 - 340us
Rods $490aus (spool???).... $318us EAGLE
$1000aus Eagle..... $500us CROWER
Pistion $900aus ARIES..... $487us CP
Head gasket $110us...... $79 -$150us
Head stud kit $120us..... $70aus

Just reading this is making me lean more and more towards building a SR20DE instead. I was blown away with the variety of parts as well, lots more brands to choose from and they even have off the shelf extractors. Just got to speak with Kev Rowley and an Engineer and see whats available to install the engine and whats Legal up here in QLD.

The list didnt come out the way I typed it but the second list of prices after the ..... is for the SR20.

I even found a stroker kit for SR20 to take it out to 2.2L for $1050us. Kit included CP forged pistion, Eagle rods, liners, pins. Now we are talking.

Well I just spoke to Kev Rowley and the news was good. He does SR20 conversion and by the sounds of they are quite simple, along the lines of doing a CA18. He also said being a naturally aspirated donk that it is legal. So I guess I will be selling off my CA18DE and associated bits so watch the classifieds and Ebay.

The SR's came out in a few different cars but the easiest to put into a datsun would be out of a RWD car to begin with. So, here goes,
S13 sr20 is from S13 Silvia and 180SX
S14 sr20 is from 200SX
S15 sr20 is from S15 Silvia

Hope that helps. BTW they are all RWD cars, there may be more but they're the ones that I know of.
