Dual downdraft question

In the photo section there are some shots of a dual Weber DGV setup on an A series engine. My questions are: Is this something one of you guys made or is it something you saw
somewhere? Isn't this a bit overcarbureted? How well does it run? I'm thinking of something similar but I would use dual 34mm ICT Webers like the old Volkswagen Bugs used.
Any thoughts? Tim

I think that setup belongs to someone in the US. I remember him talking about it and it sounds like a good setup. I think he modified the origanal manifold. Apparently goes pretty
hard to. Its not overcarburated if your engine is tuned right. I cant remember who it was who did it tho...

I have two weber sidedrafts on my 1200.. they work good.. if you are having trouble tunning them I found a book from HPBooks on weber carburetors.. it talkes about all types
of down drafts and side.. hope this helps

The dual downdraft setup belongs to me. I made it from modifying a stock intake. The linkage is made up of 2 stock throttle cables pulled by a third. It is on a bored A15 motor and
at idle it runs a little rich. If you open it up and run it hard, the carbs work great. Both of the carbs are at factory settings. If you have any detail questions, email me at:

Datsa73, I was going to e-mail you but thought that the rest of the guys might want to read the Q&A. Are you using a header (extractor for those of you on the other side of the
planet)? If not, wouldn't that help the richness a little? What cam do you have? I'm curious because I have an a14 manifold that someone had started to make into a dual SU setup.
I'm thinking of doing something different with it. I'll welcome any thoughts and ideas from anyone.

Hi Dimlight,
I am currently running stock exhaust but I do have an extractor on the floor in my garage. I am so busy with getting the body ready for paint that I do not want to take on another project
under the hood until the body is done. I should have it painted by the end of the month. Then the extractor with go in which is a NISMO COMP Header.
As far as the CAM, I've been told (correct me if I am wrong) that it is considered a mild to steep cam at a 278 duration. The bore is 30 thou over with a mild port on the head. 2 inch exhaust
with a glass pack in the rear. Other mods are electric engine fan and fuel pump. Electronic distributor. Tranny is a 210 5 speed. I did not take any pictures of the dual intake before I put it
in but when the extractor goes on, I'll take the whole thing out and snap some shots.

If you can visualize, they were made by cuting the top half off the intake on both sides from the intake bolts (leave the material that mounts to the head on) all the way to the center where
the original carb mounted. Weld on aluminum extruded boxes on both sides after trimming material off the boxes common to the lower half of the intake. Note that this is engine coolant heated
intake. Cap the old port for the original carb and the ends of the extruded boxes. There is more to it but that is the jist of it. Pictures would probably do better. If you have creativity, it
is alot of fun but I would not recommend building them for sale. I would have to ask about $500 each just to get my time and expenses back. Anymore questions, please ask.

Thanks for the info. If I read that right it sounds like the plenum under thecarb is still there and acts like a crossover tube of sorts. Is this correct? I have been thinking
of things I could build and sell but that one had not crossed my mind. I just want to make something for my car that would be different. Thanks again for responding. Tim

Dimlight before I got my injection manifold I was toying with the idea of a twin downdraft set up using factory Ford Laser twin downdrafts. Don't know where you are as far as what cars you
have but they still run in a primary and secondary throat set up like most single carbs and not like the factory webers on Fiats. The principal would be to have 2 mini plenums, 1 for each
carb feeding 2 cylinders each. I liked that idea because it gets the inlet runners further away from the exhaust for heat and you could also run a straighter exhaust outlet from 2 & 3. The
manifold could be made from the flanges of the standard manifold with curved runners made from alloy tube and the plenums could be say 100mm alloy tube cut in half with a flat plate welded
on top to mount the carbs. Could be made out of steel exhaust tubing if that was easier to get welded.
That is what I like about the injection manifold, it sits up like a downdraft manifold. If you found one of them cheap you could cut it up but that would be a waste.

Thanks fester2au. I'm in Texas, USA so some of the cars you refer to are not available to me. I know this has been answered several times before but what cars had the fuel injected A-series
engine? Are any of them in US junkyards? I'm building a turbo setup and don't really want to have to build my own injection manifold. Someone I know has suggested a Volkswagen fuelie
manifold. Does anyone know if the head flange is even remotely similar? As for the dual downdraft, I'm thinking of a pair of Weber 34mm single barrel ICTs. I may have already written about
it though, if so sorry. I have a manifold that someone started to make into a dual SU setup. If I went with this, should I make a crossover to equalize the intake pulses or let 1&2 suck
from one carb while 3&4 suck from the other?

I started a turbo setup before I set it aside to build the dual Weber downdrafts. I fabbed a aluminum box to sit on a single Weber Downdraft Carb. The turbo I have to use is out of a
1.6L Dodge Colt. I drafted up an exhaust manifold to mount the turbo on but did not get around to making it. It is all going on a A14 that I rebuilt expecially for this aplication along
with an intercooler and oil cooler. I am happy with the duals but will attempt make the setup in my spare time. Body work is my main concern right now.
Stick with your ICT's, that will make my setup unique (hehe). If you need more info, just let me know.
