Was just wondering if anyone knows how a 1400 head would go on a 1200 block? (and I don't mean just bolt it on!!) would it run ok? and is it possible to run a 1400 cam in the 1200 (standard)?

The A14 head will fit up just fine on the 1200 cylinder block [front distributor] but you will need to modify the oiling system a little to allow rocker oiling. Just study the two heads for a few minutes & a solution will come to you.

The A14 head has larger ports & valves, so if you are using the stock 1200 bore size, then just make sure that the valves do not touch the block during a mock assembly. Even with a stock A14 induction & exhaust, you will see an improvement in top end performance.

The A14 cam can be used in the early 1200 block, but you will not be able to run the original fuel pump as there will be no eccentric in that location to run it, so just discard the pump & fit a block off plate. An electric fuel pump should solve the fuel supply problem.

Sorry to hijack this thread.

What about GX cylinder head and GX cam into and onto a A14 block?
GX engine has front distributor and A14 now has the distributor at the back.
How will this effect the cam?

Both the 1200 GX [up to '73] & the A12 GX [from '74 to '76] heads will bolt onto the A14 block without problems, however you must remember that these have the smaller valve sizes, so in this regard, you are going backwards when compared to the A14 heads that we used here in Australia.

You can use the A12 GX cam in the A14 engine without problems, but the 1200 cam does not have a second drive gear for the distributor, so it is not really useable in the A14.

Ok, sorry if this is a dumb question.
But what is the difference between the 1200GX and the A12GX engine.

I think it is the position of the distributor?
Mine the distributor sits at the front of the engine.
I have a feeling it is the unusable GX cam engine that will not work in the A14 as the A14's the distributor sits at the back.
That is a waste as I have a spare GX engine that I want to take parts over to a A14 block to put in later into my GX.
I wanted to make a A14 engine that has all the GX goodies.Basically a A14 GX engine.
The GX cylinder head would get a "work over" with all the right size valves.
(Remember that email you send me Dodgeman about what Feral did to your GX cylinder head )
