SSS L-series stanza is a 63a, maybe look at using a-series auto bellhousing or something?

If you could find a 63 series gearbox case from an A series, chances are that the rest of the gearbox would be still attached as it is unlikely that an A series would break it, so you would not need to use the internals of an L series gearbox to build one up.

These 63 series gearboxes aren't so hard to get as they were used in some US models, so making a lot of contacts with US wreckers on the net will help, & some of our US members may be able to guide you along as well.
It only takes time, money, & effort.

In addition to what Dodgeman said:

Unfortunately as far as I know, there's no such thing as a 63 series 4 speed for an A series OR a 60 series 5 speed for an L-series to do some L/A parts swapping...

So that leaves us one option... Get an A series 5 speed to start with

you wouldnt need to find a 63 gearbox to adapt your l series to it. just find any gearbox that went behind the a series (56, 60 or 63 either 4 or 5spd) and cut the front housing off that to mount it to the engine and then cut the same thickness off your l series and weld them up. a new clutch will need to be made.
any transmission shop should be able to help. just recentre the friction plate to suit an l series input and keep the A series pressure plate and outside of the friction plate.

that should work i think. from memory tho i think a guy called 3rotor did a bit of this work (a supra gearbox at the moment i think) so he might be able to shead some light on it.
