ca18det is stronger. I believe CA18det box is the same as sr20det and rb20det but with a different bellhousing.

I think you'll find that they're all the same including the FJ20 box.

The FJ box doesn't have the double syncros found in the later boxes.

FJ boxes are hard to find and even harder to find in reasonable condition. Stick with the CA box or if you can't get one of them get an RB box and but a CA bellhousing on it.

I think only the DR30RS-X had the box you are thinking of Daveman (I think that was the late model intercooled version?) all the other Fj's had more L-series style boxes I think.
If the FJ version is the same as CA but single synchro then its just a RB30 box and in plentiful supply from R31s and VLs.
Either way Ca18det box is stronger than any FJ box

I agree the FJ box is more like the L-series boxes.

The CA/SR one is beefy in comparison.

I would say $150 is reasonable for a fj20 box
