Hey guys, bit of bad news....

Pulled the head off my motor today and found some pretty deep scoring in the bores. There about 3 to 4thou deep, and arent linear (there in different places in each bore). The scoring is in 1, 2 and 4. Now what do you think could have caused this??... Me and my old man think that it is mostly likely that is broken tops rings that have caused it, because the motor has not been blowing heaps of smoke or anything like that.

Its pretty sad, the motor seemed to be down on grunt latly and now i see why.

The motor did have slighty rich tune with webers back in the day, so maybe bore washing lead to the top rings to pick up on the bores.

Any suggestions are helpful.

cheers

p.s I have a spare A14 so all the gear might have to go into that for abit, until something new is built.

Bit late for a comp test, the head's already off. Nothing for it now but to continue the stripdown & check the rings, bearings & crankpins.

Yeah excactly.

The pistons are in great condtion. Im pretty sure the bottom end should be fine, if it was something else like the pins you woudl be able to hear it or bad knocking, and if it had done all the rings it would be blowing smoke galore.

Block just needs a good hone I think.

LOL not thinking clear.

The old changing pistons in the driveway I think everyones done that.

Remember that sway bar needs to come off.
