Well to save me PMing everyone who asks and to keep all the links together i thought i would make a new thread for this. Everything has a big fat APPARENTLY infront of it!!!

Ok the theory goes something like this.

Housing: P411 Bluebird rear axle housing. These are the same width as a 1000's H145. All handbrake lines etc bolt up. Housing bolts to original 1000 leaves. No modification needed.

Center: Use a H165 alloy housing (to save weight) and one of "topgear"s LSD's once the new batch is done. Or a open H165 with your choise of ratios for the time been.

Axles: 1000 H145 are a direct replacement for the originals.

Brakes: S2 Bluebird drum setup which can be used with 240Z/260Z alloy finned drums. Or other.

Driveshaft: Custom made.

Ok, question time!

1)Are P411 axle housings actually the same size as a 1000's? I have heard they are 45mm longer.
2)Are P411 H165 and say a B120 H165 the same axle spline into the centre? Therefore the same as into "topgear"s LSD?
3)Has anybody actualy done this and has the car running with the P411 diff setup?

Please add any info you may have!!!

Here are some relevent links:

Link 4
Link 5 <-- This is where I found out about the whole thing!

I can't say much about the P410/411, but I do have a parts book for the earlier WP311. [W= Wagon or "Estate Wagon"]
Call it wishfull thinking, but I suspect that the P311 series shared many mechanical components with the P410/411, including the rear axle design.

The part number for the WP311 rear axle shaft is quite different to the little B10.

I then checked the differential gasket part number of the WP311 against the gasket number for the B120 [yes, I finally found my B120 microfiche]

Same part number [38320 - 04100] This number was later superceded, but is none-the-less interchangeable, so it would seem, prima facie, that the H165 differential has its origins as far back as 1961 & the P311 & WP311 used it.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Thanks so far guys.

Dodgeman, can you see if the axle part numbers are the same also? Beacuse apparently they are interchangeable.

Lagwagon, could you measure between the sping mounting points and their width too on the housing? Cheers!

I just remembered there is a pair of '65 520 wagons in the local trading post not too far away. With spares etc for $800. I cant find what diff they have though. All i can seem to find is somebody has found a alloy H190 center in a old 1300 ute, donno how simmiler these cars are! So ill go up and have a look this week.

I think the 410/411 housing is the same width as a 1200 one, making it wider than a 1000 one. I think

Just to add to the mix. I emailed earlydatsun.com to ask about the p411 and the B10 rear diff housing, and recieved this email.

Hi there.
411s are 45mm wider than a B10.
Self Serve Wreckers at Wacol in Brisbane had a B10 the last time I was there, as did Ipswich Spare Parts.

This is where the newest confusion has come from....
