Ballast Resistor or Not?

Hey all, I have just finished getting my E15 electronic dizzy ready. (At least I think it was an E15 - it had Astra written on it from the wreckers and it was not as simple as the conversion in the tech section).

My question - Can I run it with the old coil and the ballast resistor or do I have to change over to the non resistor type and take the resistor out?

What are the differences?

balast resisors are only for points setup as they drop the voltage so it's not so harsh on your points, so it can be diteched. The coil may be able to run it, but your best to get coils from electronic ignition cars as they use a much smaller signal to trigger the spark so an internal ignitor is needed to boost up the signal so the coild can see that and knows when to fire.

Cheers
Damo

Thanks demo, so what your saying is the signal from the dizzy might not be enough to get the coil to fire?

Looks like a new coil then, do I just join the two wires from each end of the ballast resister together?

Here is a picture of my new dizzy
