Hey all.
A little while ago i unveiled my race prepped a15.
It has come a fair way and soon (hopefully) will be fitted to the datto.
Now, in looking for a coil i came across the bosch gt40rt.... sounded really good. it says it needs to be used in conjunction with a ballast resistor, no problemo.

Anyone have anything to say about these coils?

My a15 has an electronic distributor if it helps.
I am unsure of what it actually is or where it came from though as i got it with the engine.
It has a set of numbers across the base however.

I was going to get this bosch gt40rt coil and ballast resistor and use that but i want to know what others think first.

Heres a few teasers:

I also tried the GT40rt

bad move

HEC715 I think I ended up with
The 40 wouldn't allow it to idle properly

Is your head an H72, or an a12 round port that has been ported out big time? I can't see any any water galleries under the intake ports.

i asked marsh what he thought and he rekoned sunny head. i wasnt really thinking much so didnt ask a12 or a15 lol. i will ask him again though.
There are both things that suggest a15 and things that suggest a12 its a hard one.

Out of interest what coil are you using a14force ?

your head looks like it might be an A12- the manifold bolt spacing is probably the easiest way to tell. There's a bolt hole in between each inlet manifold hole, this means it was originally a rond port, so a12 it most likely is!ty

I use the coil out of a pulsar that was fitted with electronic ignition.

stick with the oil filled type ... they self cool better than the little ones.
i run a gt40r ?? i think, no ballast resistor one, and using a modded bosch bluebird elec dizzy ... never had a problem
the non oil coils have a tendancy to over heat when giving them a flogging and once they cook, in less than a blink of an eye it's all over ... no more spark
