Hey All

I know that the "what brake upgrade" discussion has been raised a number of times before but some thing that seems to be overlooked is the master cylinder/booster upgrade.

I have completed the upgrade on myrace car using the 75 series Landcruiser 4 spots however just before I raced I took them off again fearing that the Master cylinder/booster may not handle the extra pressure & forces.

What is the most common or recommended master cylinder upgrade to accommodate the larger brakes?

I was thinking that maybe the 260Z ones would be OK consdering the 1200 is so small - does this sound feasible?

You have a misunderstanding of fluid systems. The force/pressure on you MC is exactly the same as it was before you upgraded your brakes. The pressure in the lines is entirely dependant on the force you put on the pedal with your foot.

When you upgrade to a larger caliper with a larger piston area you increase the output force at the caliper end but from the same line pressure.

There is obviously some science to be done to match MC's to calipers but your braking system is no more dangerous than it was before.

I've got a standard late-model 120Y booster and master cylinder in my 120Y with landcruiser/r31 calipers. It stops fine but the pedal is a bit low. I'm going to look into the patrol master before engineering

Expen$ive is what it is, i cant remember exactly what but he uses an old mitsubishi booster (LA/LB Lancer i'm using) with a bit bigger twin reservoir master from a 120Y or something. i think. but better off to find the parts at wreckers, HEAPS cheaper that way.

OK then, well thanks heaps for that guys - i think I will look into the Patrol or 260Z ones.

I am assuming that any Patrol would be suitable.

I am assuming that you assume wrong, they've been making patrols for 40years I'm sure they dont all fit.
