just thought i would post up a few pics of the new exhaust that i made today.

its for my ute.

i bought the stainless off a mate of mine and then the muffler and exhaust flanges from an exhaust shop.
cut the straight and bends to desired lenghts and angles and then welded it all togethor using a mig with stainless wire.

all up it took 5hrs or so to do.

here are a few photos of it.
old vs new.

If you are also running extractors, that is going to be VERY loud! It will echo up into the cab and will become a little hard to handle for long trips.
Trust me, i know from experience, i had to put an extra muffler in to make it bareable.
BUT it looks pretty nice, just thought id warn you

i reckon that you deserve braggin rights for those beads nice job.

my welder wouldnt do that. The lowest amperage is 85 amps, upto 280amps. Awsome machine, but just no good for little jobs.
becides i am a self taught welder, so im not that good anyways.

Ahh Ronald,
You are the one I was talking about in the off-topic article- the one with the Bob Dylan quote. Much respect. And I take my hat off to your welding, my old man has a metal fabrication plant in PNG, I know how complicated it is to weld (at length) around CHS!! Very respectable indeed, steady hand.

I like the simplicity of it not going over the axle housing. Any ground clearance issues so far?

it is 2.5"

it has a 2" to 2.5" expander right up the front where it joins the extractors.

it does go over the axle, its just because its a ute that there is lots of room and can be done very simply.

as for cost:
i worked for this at a mates place who had the steel so its free, he threw the wire in too (aslong as i give it back ot him). He said it "was a bit expensive".

clearance is ok. u can get a "big thumbs" up under it (pull a thumbs up and slide it under the exhausts lowest point) so its not to bad for clearance. but the ute isnt lowered yet so we'll see what happens.

as for the noise: it is loud, i plan to put in a ressy just before it goes over the axle (where the orig muffler is on the old exhaust).
that should keep it quiet and also provide a bit better back pressure to help the webers suck properly.

Ok. so it is really really loud. so here is my solution for this...

hopefully it calms it down a bit, to a dull roar.
