15 inch an over kill or not

gentlemen,
has anybody used 15 inch rims and tyres to race or drag race wit a fully worked a14
we wanna try some but maybe its an overkill for the motor
what u guys think

There are still a lot of A14's and A15's racing but mainly in circuit and rally. Your question re: 15's depends on your diff/gearbox combo and whether you currently run out of revs or speed at the end of the 1/4. The fastest A series circuit race cars that I have seen all run 13's and pull big revs. I have 14's for circuit racing but have a low diff ratio.

difference in rolling diameter with the 15 inch 50 profile 205 wide is 61mm from the 14 inch that i am currently using
ride height is almost the same
any advice

im not realy 100% im right but if you drag race you want big tyre wall .........
if you race around a track you want a low profile tyre ...

I reckon the extra weight of a 15" wheel and tyre would cancel out any advantages they might give.

To answer your question, yes I think that 15's would be a real overkill.
FYI I run 175/60/ 13 Bridgestone R's and that works really well. A 205/50/15 with an A14 is just too much- these are light, little cars and with modern R compound tyres stick like the preverbial to a blanket...You simply don't have to go to those extremes.
I would have thought even with your engines performance 185/60/13 should do the trick nicely.
