To rebuild or not to rebuild

Now that I have the twin carbs the plan was to simply purchase a lumpy cam to warrant the extra fuel, whack it all together and off I go.

However, since I have to half pull the engine apart I was thinking of a thorough tidy up. As we all know this would lead to a full house rebuild, pistons, headwork and the like (doesn't it always?). My question is should I just stick to the original plan of cam only, or bite the bullet and go the full rebuild?

I always think you are better off buying another engine and rebuilding it while you are still driving (and enjoying) your car. Just fit the cam and carbs for the moment and then make the decision.
