i got me coilover kit and ordered 240z sports coupe shocks the lenth of these shocks are 355mm and the old stanza shock length is 438mm that means i would have to cut a section out 82 mm to shorten the shock. . what do u all think???

the safest way to work out what is required to be removed is to put the new insert in amd measure to the top of the tube u will also need the check where the cap sits on the new insert to make sure it goes past the insert or sits on top this will change how much u need to leave above the insert for clamping preasure

I have this exact combo in my car. I had to shorten the strut tube by 55-60mm. Luckily there is stacks of length in the stanza strut above the spring perch so you can just take it out of that section so you don't compromise the strength at all.

When I did it I ground off the spring seat but then removed the section of tube as close to the top as possible to minimise alignment issues when welding the two parts back together. If you have some sort of jig to hold the parts square when cutting it you won't have an issue though. I only had a hand held angle grinder.

Cutting the strut tube in a late is good, but getting a plumbers large pipe cutter is just as good. carefully cutting around a well marked edge with a hacksaw will do if you don't have anything else. Just take it easy, and continue to rotate the pipe as you cut it. Don't just hold it in a vice and cut straight through.

Good Luck.

i use thin cardboard that wrapped around the tube more then once so i could line it up straight then placed my new insert in nipped the top nut so that it held it square then tacked it together then removed to fully weld my new inserts were a firm fit in the tube . i would be carefull about welding them down to far as that makes it hard to die grind any excess weld u make get inside the tube preventing the installation of your new insert . i have done 5 sets this way and have never had a problem ,so have fun
