I have just recently bought a 1200 sedan which was automatic all for the price of $275. It was all running and the rego only just ran out end of last month. It has some rust not much really
and the usual dents etc. but a very good buy. I have been wanting one for ages and esp. with the auto coz of bigger gearbox tunnel. I haddn't tryed out my 5 speed and only put it into my sedan
a few days ago.
Apart from changing the usual flywheel and fitting a clutch it went well. I had to grind off the plate where the clutch cable comes out of the fire wall and had to get some nuts to bolt the
thing tothe fire wall as they wernt already there. I used the automatic gearbox crossmember and it bolted straight tothe 5 speed and straight to the car no other mods, i used a standard manual
tail shaft and bolted it all together.
Then came the test drive. (note that this car isn't registered or insured) I live out in what most people would call the country but really it is just far away enough from towns and regular 60
and 80 km/hr zones. but any way i took it for a drive and found out that fifth is overdrive! I thought that it was a close raito gearbox but was proven wrong.
so my question is what type of gearbox is it and what does it come from as it bolts straight to the a12. it uses a
1 3 5
2 4 R
patern and found out that i can get the speedo needle off the clock in 4th and the change to 5th an keep going. The motor is absolutely stock and it does that, some one please explain?

Sounds like a freak of luck. Almost any gearbox change means a trip to the tailshaft-man.
I know there are 2 Sunny A-series 5 speed gearboxes, we've discussed this on a couple of occasions. Post the identifying
numbers (if any).
Maybe the engine isn't stock? My old A12 made it to the published 98mph, but never off the clock.

Howdy - sounds like you have used the original speedo drive off the auto?
Still you can impress your mates by clocking the car without endangering their
lives...

Bonus! $275 cant go wrong! It looks like u have the same 5 speed as i do. I to thought it was a dogleg box but its just a normal pattern box. Not sure if 5th is overdrive, i thought
it was just 1:1. I never actually got to cruise in 5th so im not sure. Whats the dogleg box come out of anyone??

PS. I got a 120y sedan for 50 bucks once. Best $50 i ever spent, thrashed the shite out of it and sold it for $400 :)

Scott,

My dog-leg tranny came from a 1976 B210 with the 78 HP A14 motor.

The identity numbers that i found on the 5 speed were E R 0Z53230. Does this help coz I have no idea what this would be? Another thing, sorry when I said I went off the clock,
the road was slightly down hill, some people may call this cheating but this was the longest stretch of road i could find.
As for the motor, it is an import one (dizzy at the back) there is absolutly nothing done to the motor, stock everything and it even blows smoke, a true ole dato motor. he he
he.

I asked for the numbers, because I figured some of the other collectors on here have several of each sort of A Series
5 speed boxes.

Talking slightly downhill... I had my CA18DE/1200 all the way back to 0 on the round coupe dash ..that's definitely
cheating.
