Hey all, just wondering what the biggest engine i could put into my datsun 1000 sedan? has anyone done a engine other then a nissan package eg. A12, A14.
The engine has to be road registered in the ACT. Ive looked into 12a and 13b packages but the power to weight ratio isnt in my favour? i would love a rotary any ideas people?

I have a hot A15 in mine , it has all the power a 1000 should ever need, doesnt upset the weight distribution and is a peice of cake to put in as its virtually the same block as whats in there now.
Also my A15 would have similiar power output to a stock rotary.

Sorry to hijack the thread, Sidedraught what have you done to your A15? does the 1000 go like a cut snake?. I'm looking into installing a bigger engine into my 4dr b10.

the 1k is limited in engine swaps.

The a15 swap is probally the most popular cause they go in without too much hassle, and registration is a no brainer.

A stock 10A wouldnt be much to brag about, and like beattie said, all top end power (not much) and nothing down low at all, which is typical of a rotary really, and in my humble opinion, is really only sovled somewhat with the later models and major engine work, something that you wont get away with in the 1k

If you dont want to go Nissan/datsun, then perhaps a corrola engine?? the 1.6 out of a early 80s model (not sure of the engine number). Even then you arnt going to get much more than the a15.

I am planning a turbo a15 into my 1k sedan, and I would think that it will be near the drivable hp level for the car.

Dman1k is planning to go for a ca18de i think, but the mods are faily extensive and expensive, and thats Nissan so its not what you want.

I did a little research into using an e series engine, but again not much gain to be had over the a15 except for factor turbo.

I guess the short of it is, stick with the a series and you should be more than happy.

This question all comes down to how much the car weighs if you plan on getting it registered?

Like reuby_tuesday said I reckon a 4AG or 4AGZE would be pretty sweet!
