Well i have just brought some 280zx front struts for the my 1200 sedan and was going to shorten them.
I know there are a few 1200's on here kicking around with 280zx struts and was wondering what inserts you guys have used if you have shortened them at all.

I have shortened 280zx turbo struts, they use 240sx inserts.

I think they are shortened 58mm? but not sure. You may also want the roll center spacer that goes between the ball joint and the strut.

What brakes are you using? if you got a little money, think wilwood dynalites and proper adapter plates to fit them to 280zx spindles, the work involved is way less that what is done for those holden mods with modified rotors and all that nonsence, I guarantee the wilwood calipers are better, lighter and cheaper to get decent pads.

Anything bad about the 280zx struts? they're heavy and lead to other mods like camber plates and strut tower braces, but well worth it!

What model 240sx? (s13/14/15)

Its a bit of a bugger, i just threw out some factory s13 struts so they could have been used to dummy it up :)

I already have made some camber plates and spring perches ready for the coil over conversion. So just need to buy my weld on threaded collar and pick up the struts and its ready to go :)

s13 I think, I have the tokiko adjustable struts with the adjuster that comes up through the top nut. They're pretty nice. Since it's probably S13 there should be pretty much any strut you want.

I didn't realise you had to shorten 280ZX struts...I though people were using them was because they were a lot shorter than Stanzas.

Sounds like I was wrong...

They are short enough already, I havent shortened mine at all.

Just installed MR30 struts in the daily and they are a tad longer and I still have plenty of travel with it nice and low.

you don't have to shorten them, i think it's mostly a geometry thing, since 58mm taken off the top and 30mm added to the bottom.

it's not for lowering, that's why we have coilovers.

I used them because of the wilwood brakes, the 280zx adapter plate is pretty common to find and s13 performance struts are easy to get.
