Looking for strut caps & cartridges

Are the strut cap from a late model Ute (not sure even what year to ask about) the same as on a 1200 coupe? I assume you can still buy them new if ordered for a Ute.

are there any known direct replacement cartridges for a stock 1200 coupe strut available anywhere???

I've had no luck locating any on this side of the pond & I'd like to avoid some extensive front end conversion if possible.

Thanks, Evan

Aren't the older cartridges the type that you take apart and change the oil in? Try www.partsamerica.com they have all sort of parts.

The 'cap' you mean the gland nut that goes on top and holds the cartridge in? you might be able to get those too, or head to the junkyard.

You can stiil get insert cartridges through nissan (56105-H5025), it takes about a month as they are on back order. They are solid inserts and do not need oil. If you need the gland nut that holds the strut in, I have two used ones I could send to you, just PM me

Thanks guys for the info. I studied my factory service manual last night (good reading!) for strut disassembly & rebuilding & yes they are the "change the oil & seals type" I could go that route if I can find the proper seals but I'd rather take Kelmo up on the Nissan inserts.

I did talk to a Nissan dealer today who checked to see if they could order cartridges & he said no, I'll call him tomorrow & give him these #'s.

Kelmo, have you ordered these before or recently?

Maybe I'm calling the "strut cap" by the wrong name, I mean the upper spring retainer that the
strut shaft sticks up through & the nut is attached to. It's the piece that sticks up through the shock tower into the engine compartment.

Thanks again,
evan

Or you can go thru this site
http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=56105-H5025
If you have the part number, this site is a great way to check availability and price.

Evan,
Yes I have ordered the strut inserts recently, I ordered them in July took 2 to 3 weeks to get. If you are looking for the metal cup piece that goes on top of the spring like a retainer that one is 54040-G1600. one is available and one is on back order(this part is at the top of the wheel well. I also think from your description that you may be looking for the upper strut mount, it has three studs that go through the apron and the nuts are in the engine bay, the strut shaft goes through this and has a nut on top. If so, that part # is 54320-H1000 and is on backorder I have also ordered these as recently as April and took 2 to 3 weeks to get. That was a lot to say but had to until I could post a pic...
PM me if you need more help
Kelmo
edit: and now you have part #'s that you can check on ang94541's link (forgot it was there)

the spring hat, and those bits could be pillaged from the junk yard pretty cheaply i'd imagine.

there won't be very many more of them in dealer stock.

well that's what i'd do for a part like that. you'll probably have to take the whole strut assembly but it's not likely to cost much.

I probably threw out a complete set of 120Y struts with brakes and all. Someone may have some pieces left in their parts pile...

I haven't taken apart the strut's yet so I was assuming that the strut hats/caps were a one piece design with some type of a rubber bushing that's vulcanized into it. It sounds like its a two piece design instead.

I was looking at replacing the metal caps because on the one's I have the rubber bushing inside have numerous cracks, If i can just buy the bushings that'd be better.

Thanks for all the help, we'll see what Nissan has to say about availability.
