Hello all, just thought I'd tell you my problem and see if anyone can shed some light for me as this is the first turbo car Ive had and Im a bit of a newb. The car is a 120y with a ca18 turbo.

Firstly the car begun to lose power, but now it practicly crawls up hills and is so slow its almost undriveble. The motor sounds find, but the boost takes ages to spool up and does nothing. The gauge used to peak at 16psi, now it just keeps spooling past 20 psi but has no effect.

Also the car feels like its running on 3 cylinders at times, but then after some backfiring and a lot of smoke its fine for a while. The has been repeating for a while but has now gotten to this stage.

And another thing, on the turbo side of the motor something is spraying a fine mist of oil around the engine bay and i cant pin point where from.

The motor was rebuilt only 7000ks ago buy the previuos owner, but it burns oil.

So there you have it, from a 200+ kmph spin the wheels in every gear change to a slow as a snail on drugs and barly able to go up a 2 degree hill!

Do a compression test on all 4 pots and look at the plugs while they are out. If oil getting into cylinder chamber they will be oily.

That would give you and starting point to find out where the oil is going.

If thats OK, I would be looking at the oil feed to the turbo and drop off the outlet hose and see if the turbo is full of oil. May tell you if the oil seals in the turbo are shot.

???? Im no guru either but a bit more info may help others get a better idea of whats going on.

Has a turbo hose poped off somewhere on the intake side...around the intercooler?

Check the oil lines from the engine block to the turbo and also check your coilpacks.

Nah I just checked the intercooler pipes and they are firmly on. The oil lines are all in tack. I've decided to book it in with a local Datsun bloke who does Ca's and all that fancy stuff. I'll let you know what it was, I've got a feeling it not a simple problem. Thanks
