Hi datsun_cr,

Welcome. There are several club members here in South Africa...let's hope they see this message.

The historical racing seems to be picking up in S. A. lately.

Hi datsun_cr

Welcome to the club. First thing, can you maybe tell us what are the rules for classic racing. What is allowed and what is not.Through this I may be able to assist you. My one mechanic was way back a mechanic for the Datsun racing team and they raced a 1200 GX. I don't know if the rules changed much but they almost had nothing allowed to change on the cars. That is why I am asking what does the rules say.
Through this we can also give advice on what you can do to make good power.
Are you going to use a A12 engine?

Hi there, from ZA myself, please to meet. Where about in Za are you? I think just by reading up on the engines and gearboxes, and asking a few questions, you'll probably find much more joy in doing the prep work yourself, and know that it was done properly. There is a wealth of information held by the collective members, and lots of it is on the wiki.

Yes, it seems that classic racing has become the rage lately, for more reasons than one. First and foremost I think it's because other types of racing has grown well out of reach of the average being in ZA. It has become extremely expensive to get involved in any of the "big" racing leagues, and sponsors are very few and far between.

There is rarely an occasion where local motor racing is covered on TV, with air time on sport being devoted mostly to soccer, rugby and/or cricket. When time is devoted to motorsport, they mostly concentrate on rallies or the bigger races on the tracks, with the camera focused on the usual suspects(read one or two people who have been in the sport since ancient times, and don't seem to be giving up anytime soon), and lesser racers occasionally sneaking in a shot when they have an accident or something out of the ordinary.

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread with this rant, but I'm very pissed of with local TV for not giving more, and equal, covering to racing in ZA.

So with a few bucks in your pocket, it has become easier to get involved with classic racing, where technology hasn't reared it's ugly end, and is mostly kept under control. Thus if you have a multi million setup or do everything in your backyard, you can get involved, and still be able to beat the likes of Willie Hepburn, Sarel Van Der Merwe, and Serge Damseaux.

Hi,

Thank you for the posts.

At the moment I'm at Luanda, and I'm looking for is a good engine and 4 or 5 speed gearbox preparators.

I'm in the beginning, only some clever ideas about these machines and need expert help.

About the body, it will be made at "home", but I need as well some body parts, like bonnets, doors and lateral panels.
There is retailer of Datsun body parts?

Best regards,

Datsun_cr

Again, as mentioned. You will have to give us more details.
What engine is allowed in the rules.
What gearbox is allowed in the rules.
What brake upgrade is allowed in the rules.
Please inspect the rules and tell us what is allowed.

Gearbox you can use the 1400 bakkie one.
Brakes you must tell us what mods are allowed. I know of a bakkie here with Nissan Almera discs and Ford Focus brake calipers.
Damn good brakes. We braked 3 times in a row from 200km/h to 0km/h as the guy took me for a spin in the bakkie.(250kw and 500Nm )
This brakes would work well,if allowed, for racing purposes.
Then you will have to look at suspention.

For body panels phone SSS bakkies in Jo'burg. Most of the bakkie stuff I think will fit the sedan.

Before you start modding anything on the car, you will have to go through the rules first. It won't work if you modify stuff on the car and when they inspect it before the race, they inform you that you have modded something that is not allowed. First go through the rules and then ask the questions.

Yes, you're right.

I know certain bits of the rules, but I will do my homework, and later I will be more specific.

Thanks,
